Hey everyone, I'm delighted to let you know that my friend Rayya Elias's beautiful, harrowing, heartbreaking, crazy, uplifting, fearless memoir "Harley Loco" has been published today!
It's so great.
Don't just take it from me, either, even though she's my friend and I wrote the introduction. You know who else loves this book? (Besides everyone who's read it?) DEBBIE HARRY, people!
It's not often you see a book with blurbs from both Debbie Harry and Liz Gilbert, but this is that very book.
Also, the memoir has gotten nothing but raves from the critics so far. Publisher's Weekly, Library Journal, Kirkus…they all love it. It's strong and potent writing, and they know it.

Last night I had the honor of speaking at a fundraiser in Laredo Texas for the Casa de Misericordia shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
For those of us who live our lives free from fear, let us be profoundly grateful. And by all means, if we are lucky enough to be free and strong, please let us never forget to give our time and money to help the women in our communities who are not so safe.
For anyone out there right now who is afraid in her own home, afraid of her husband or partner, afraid for her children, afraid for her safety…our hearts and prayers are with you.
If you are being humiliated, controlled, insulted, coerced, minimized, intimidated by the person who is supposed to love you…our hearts and prayers are with you.
I beg you to (carefully, and with a plan in place) seek help and break free. There are people in your community who can assist you. You do not need to live this way forever and you do not deserve it. I met women last night whose lives, only a few years ago, were living nightmares, and who have come through safely on the other side and now live with dignity. It can be done.
Please find help. Please be careful.

Another beautiful HAPPINESS JAR…and very worth it to read the inscription!
My daughter and I gave out Happiness Jars as a gift to people at Christmas. I included a notepad and pencil in the jar and attached this poem I wrote to go with it. I'm including a picture (with my crazy daughter in the background) but have typed the words here in case they're too small to read in the pic. Thank you for this idea! It has been a wonderful thing for my daughter and I do together.

So oftentimes we allow
Little things to get us down
We concentrate on negatives
That turn our smiles to frowns
This year, let's try to change that
With the help of this little jar
Let's fill it with the good times
To remind us how blessed we are
Write down all the little things
Throughout the year that made you glad
Then open your jar of blessings
And see what a wonderful year you had.
