Regina's HAPPINESS JAR, from Germany…and a reminder not to wait for the Big Things, but to celebrate the small and wonderful!

Photos of Elizabeth Gilbert
Dear Liz, I really like the idea of jars of happiness. I started mine at the beginning of the year but then totall forgot about it. Well, actually I was waiting for the "big things" to happen and totally forgot to note the small things in life (which often mean more than the big ones). Only yesterday I got the jar off the shelf and decorated it with ribbons and selfmade crochet flowers. Now I can´t wait to fill it up with happiness. Greetings from Germany, Regina

Of all the HAPPINESS JARS, the mother-daughter variety is my absolute favorite!

We had a wonderful afternoon finding jars at goodwill and being creative, making mother and daughter happiness jars today! Both of us wrote today's experience as our first happiness entry into the jar 🙂 what a blessing my daughter is…. I suspect she will be the topic of many of my entries ♥ love the jar idea, what a great way to focus on the good things!

…AND AN ANNIVERSARY/THANK YOU GIFT!
Thank you all for the SWEET messages of love on this happy day — the 10th anniversary of Eat Pray Love.
Those of you who are subscribers to my LizNews Newsletter already got a special gift in their inboxes this morning, but now I wanted to open the gift to all of you.
If you go to my website here and click on the right, where it says "EXCERPT", you will see the first chapter of my new novel "The Signature of All Things" — made public today for the first time!
I also put up there the images of ALL the foreign covers (so far!) for the novel, from all the foreign publishers…so you will be able to see how the book will look all over the world when it is published (27 days from now!!!) on October 1.
Thank you for all the journeys you have taken with me so far in my life, everyone…and I hope you'll enjoy this one, too!

Dear Friends —
Today is a really special anniversary for me…and for Eat Pray Love.
Exactly 10 years ago today, I got on a plane to Rome all by myself. With one small backpack, I set off on an adventure that would, over the next year, take me through Italy, India and Indonesia — and which would end up being the most transformative journey of my life…to say the least!
Ten years later, I stand amazed (and emotional) and at what began on that day.
Sometimes people ask me, “Did you know, when you started out on your trip, what your book would someday become?” To which I can only reply: “WHAT SANE PERSON COULD HAVE EVER IMAGINED SUCH A THING?”
All I knew was that this journey (which involved quitting my job and leaving behind every precious person and belonging in my life) felt like the biggest risk I’d ever taken. Because, I guess, it was.
Thank God for risks, huh?
🙂
What a year that was! And what a decade this has been! Thank you with all my heart to everyone who came on that journey (each in your own way), and thank you to all of you who have stayed with me since. I love this fellowship, which has grown up around Eat Pray Love. The stories of your own desperate risks — your own acts of love and faithful courage — move me and inspire me every single day.
I wanted to share these photos with you all, as thanks and celebration.
Thank you all. You are the sweetest of lasting gifts,
ONWARD,
Liz
