QUESTION OF THE DAY: CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANY GOOD SPIRITUAL MEMOIRS?

(I'm not kidding! I'm seriously asking this!)

Dear Friends —

A visitor to this page asked me the other day if I could recommend any good spiritual memoirs and I thought I would open up the question to everyone. Here's a list of a dozen that I love. To be fair, some of the titles on my list are not quite officially "spiritual" (Jack Gilbert; Abigail Thomas) and some are not quite officially "memoirs" (Mary Oliver; Pema Chodron) but these are a few works that have helped to budge and sooth my soul (or just made me laugh) when I have been stuck over the years.

Here goes:

"When Things Fall Apart", by Pema Chodron

"After the Ecstasy, the Laundry", by Jack Kornfield

"Traveling Mercies", by Anne Lamott

"Three Dog Life", by Abigail Thomas

"Wild", by Sheryl Strayed

"Here if You Need Me", by Kate Braestrup

"Mennonite in a Little Black Dress", by Rhoda Jazen

"Seven Storey Mountain", by Thomas Merton

"Harley Loco", by Rayya Elias

"Speaking of Faith", by Krista Tippett

"Mixing Minds", by Pilar Jennings

"The Collected Poems of Jack Gilbert"

"The Collected Poems of Mary Oliver"

Can you all add your own suggestions?

Let's help a friend on the search!

(And please enjoy this photo of my very spiritual cat, perched upon the crown of enlightenment itself!)

Love,
LIZ
