polynesian stick map – Here’s another Polynesia stick map. The islanders had astonishing navigation powers…could navigate on cloudy nights, without the aid of stars, simply because they had memorized ocean currents. This map shows the currents. Amazing stuff.

polynesian rope map – This blows my mind. The polynesian islanders (the best navigators the world has ever known) used to make these maps out of bamboo sticks, showing ocean currents and islands. Captain Cook was dazzled by their navigational skills.
